ECE strategic plan 2002 - 2012
The early childhood sector and Government have developed a 10-year Strategic Plan called Pathways to the future: Ngā Huarahi Arataki. The plan is focused on achieving three main goals over the next 10 years:
- increasing participation in quality early childhood education services
- improving quality of early childhood education services
- promoting collaborative relationships
At the same time the early childhood sector is being encouraged to continue to provide a diverse range of services. In those services that are teacher-led, one way of improving quality is to ensure that teachers are all qualified and registered. The target date for teacher-led services to employ only qualified, registered teachers, or to have staff studying towards a recognised qualification is 2012. Prior to 2012, there are targets for 2007 and 2010.
