Employment

Finding a job

Once qualified as a teacher, there are several ways of finding a job:

Salaries

Collective agreements for secondary, primary and kindergarten teachers can be viewed on the Ministry of Education’s website.

For other early childhood services, pay varies greatly and salaries are agreed in a variety of collective agreements or by individual contracts.

More detailed information on some early childhood collectives and primary salaries can be found on NZEI’s website.  Similarly secondary teachers can view the PPTA’s website for further salary information or you can follow the links below.

Support while teaching

Loan Support Scheme

The Loan Support Scheme has been closed to new applicants from 2009 as it has been superseded by the Teacher Voluntary Bonding Scheme.  However, those teachers who have received Loan Support Scheme payments in the past, and continue to meet the eligibility criteria, can apply for their next payment in the usual way. The 2009 Loan Support Scheme application forms are available to download below.

The Loan Support Scheme will cease from the beginning of 2011.

If you would like to find out more about the Teacher Voluntary Bonding Scheme, visit www.minedu.govt.nz/voluntarybondingscheme
